New Blogs to Check Out!

I've been busy working on Hair and Diamonds (see last post). I also started a new blog called M + T = S. The newest blo documents the process of my work. Check it out at: http://mplustequalss.tumblr.com/.

I haven't forgotten about this blog, but I have to find a good use for it. I'll probably use this blog to post photos of finished work.

Christopher's Work: Furniture, The Round Table

I have been working on a spherical table. I just unpacked it and happily found it unblemished. It survived the trip across country in the ABF ReloCube (a cheaper version of PODS). This is empirical evidence that paper mache furniture is durable! All of my pieces of furniture from IKEA were smashed.

I rescued a broken knitting table and cocooned it in paper mache. The "Round Table" consists of wood, cardboard, paper mache paste (flour and water), and phone book pages. I wanted to show the state of the table before sealing and finishing. The metamorphosis is almost complete; soon it will emerge a beautiful table that you can't put anything on top of.

Christopher's Work: Apocalypse... just in time for the Large Hadron Collider

It scares me that the Apocalypse mask is coming together right now!

These final stages of completion ominously coincide with the launch of the Large Hadron Super Collider. I have started putting the final details on the mask, just as the protons have started warming up with their initial laps around the Collider. I estimate that the mask will probably be complete around the time that the first protons start smashing together.

Christopher's Work: 100 words about the masks.

Three thousand years ago, climate collapse, global epidemics, and countless civil wars led to the end of human civilization on Earth. Scientists tried to prevent The Apocalypse, but there was only one solution: intergalactic space travel. Surprisingly, their ability to travel to distant planets did not rely on faster space engines or tricky physics. Deep space hibernation and obesity allowed them to reach our world. Once-obese-astronauts woke up slim from the Thousand Year Sleep with dreams for New Earth still fresh. These are the traditional ceremonial masks used to tell the story of the humans, their arrival, and the War.

Christopher's Work: Masks, Trying to GET THEM OUT THERE!

Redefine Magazine, a Seattle-based music and art publication, had a brief write-up about my masks. Check it out:

Also, I submitted two photos of the SPACE MASK (sunglasses mask) to a book about recycled plastic. I think the photos are beautiful so I thought I'd post them. Hopefully, they will get accepted.
